Helicopter tours on the Big Island fly over the volcanoes of Kilauea, Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Active lava flows are often much too dangerous to be viewed on foot. The only way to really see Kilauea, the active volcano on the Big Island, is by helicopter or small plane tour.
All tours and locations are of course subject to weather. Morning flights typically have less cloud cover but fill up quickly. Consider booking your helicopter tour early in your vacation in case you need to reschedule due to weather.
