When visiting the beach, please follow these Basic Ocean Safety Tips provided by lifeguards:

Never Swim Alone & Always Watch Your Children
Don't Dive Into Unknown Water or Into Shallow Breaking Waves
If You Are Unable to Swim Out of a Strong Current, Signal for Help
Rely on Your Swimming Ability Rather Than a Flotation Device
Look For, Read and Obey All Beach Safety Signs and Symbols

In addition, take the advice of old Hawaiians:
Don’t turn your back to the ocean!

Polihua Beach
North Lanai

White sand beach, over 1-1/2 miles long. Good whale watching in season, famous sea turtle nesting beach. Dangerous swimming due to strong currents. Surfing for experts only.

●Best reached by mountain bike or 4 x 4 vehicle
●Wear shoes to protect yourself from the needle-sharp kiawe thorns

Shipwreck Beach
North East Lanai

This beach stretches over miles of the northeast coast of Lanai fronting the Kalohi Channel that separates Lanai from Molokai. Known for its strong currents and numerous reefs, many ships have run aground along this channel. There are two visible shipwrecks from shore. Swimming in this area is extremely unsafe. Many petroglyphs in the area. Excellent beach combing.

● Accessible only by 4 wheel drive - check road conditions before setting out
● Extremely dangerous swimming
