Adding Leis to your Hawaiian WeddingIt is customary for the wedding couple to exchange leis in a Hawaiian Wedding. Giving leis symbolizes love and commitment. You may desire to show your love, respect and gratitude to family members by presenting leis to them during the ceremony.The groom usually wears a lei of green maile leaves, which have a spicy scent. The lei is typically worn open with the ends dangling in the front. Sometimes tropical flowers are added. The bride traditionally wears a lei of jasmine or white orchids. Pikake, which has a wonderful scent and resembles pearls, is also used. If you don't feel comfortable wearing a lei, consider a "haku" (a head lei), or an ankle or wrist lei. These add beautiful Hawaiian accents. Incorporating the lovely tropical flowers Hawaii has to offer in your wedding adds a special Hawaiian touch and many smell wonderful! |
